Just 10 km south of Lübeck starts a region of lakes, countryside and forests, which is well known for its beauty and unspoiled nature. This is where we will have our outing. To enjoy this piece of nature at its best we have planned a hike along the shores of the Ratzeburger Lake, starting at its north tip and walking all the way south to the 1000-year-old city of Ratzeburg. After lunch, busses will transport us to the lakeshore, where the hike can be started at three different locations – corresponding to different walking distances: 12km, 10km, or 6km. While the LINAC 2004 Participants are hard at work at the conference, their companions can enjoy the sight and sounds of the historic towns and coastline around the this part of the Baltic sea. On Monday, Tuesday and Thursday we have arranged tours of some of the most famous sites in the area:

• Monday 16.08: Historic Lubeck, with a tour of the city's famous sites in the morning, followed (after lunch) with a boat trip on the Trave to the seaside town of Travemunde.
  
• Tuesday 17.08: "Land and Sea" - a tour (by bus) through the some of the famous countryside surrounding Lubeck, and eventually ending up at the beautiful beaches at the Baltic sea.
  
• Thursday 19.08: a visit to Schwerin, the state capital of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. A rich wealth of water and woodland, cultural treasures rich in tradition and fascinating architecture give the State capital of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the second oldest city east of the Elbe, its character.
  

The conference dinner will be held in the Lubeck Harbour at "Schuppen 9". Aperitifs by the waterside from 19:00 on.
